As a social media specialist, I have worked with nonprofit news outlets, higher education institutions and independent news organizations to help strengthen their social media strategy and build audience engagement. I have experience creating content across platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and more.
As a social specialist with the vegan digital magazine Tenderly, I worked on every aspect of the organization's social media presence from content creation to audience engagement to strategy development.
While working with Tenderly, one of my main focuses was experimenting with various social-first content concepts including Instagram story recipe demonstrations, our #TenderlyReads series on Twitter and creative visuals for all social channels.
I also worked to develop and grow the magazine's newsletter and incorporate the newsletter into the overall engagement strategy for the magazine.
As a reporting fellow with local news lab City Bureau, I worked on a four-person reporting team to investigate and tell the stories of Black generational wealth in Chicago. In addition to writing and reporting stories on the topic, I led the development and execution of the social media strategy that accompanied the project.
Our strategy included asking weekly questions about Black generational wealth from City Bureau’s social media accounts and starting conversations around the topic using #BlackChiWealth. Highlights from these conversations were published as part of the completed reporting project.
South Side Weekly
As the social media editor for the Chicago-based alt-weekly South Side Weekly, I helped to build overall social strategy and audience engagement.
In my role, I focused on building the Weekly’s Instagram presence and audience utilizing industry best practices that were not yet being implemented. I also worked on original and social-first content creation for the Weekly’s Instagram page.
Before leaving the position, I conducted full audit of the Weekly’s Instagram account in order to identify additional growth opportunities and provide a roadmap for the future of the social media team at the Weekly.
